A NEW GENERATION
Owned and operated by Scott and Lori Webster, their store has a long history of family and community commitment. The business was originally founded in 1926 by Scott's grandfather, Harold "Frank" Webster. It began as a small pharmacy — Webster's Pharmacy of Altadena — and was later enlarged by Frank's son, William (Bill), who assumed the helm at the tender age of 19 when Frank passed away. Bill continued running the business until 2007, taking time out only once for the purpose of serving in the military.
Through the decades, Bill expanded the small pharmacy, which eventually became a complex of interconnected stores, including the pharmacy, a liquor store, a stationery and office products store, a Hallmark Gold Crown, a video rental store, a scrap booking store and a UPS/FedEx authorized shipping outlet.
A NEIGHBORHOOD OF HISTORY
The Webster's neighborhood is packed with a rich history. In the early days, Altadena was noted for its clean air and quaint vacation resorts that were once located in the nearby San Gabriel Mountains. A trolley system conveniently brought people into the area, and Henry Ford often intrigued the neighborhood as he tested his cars in the street in front of Webster's. Additionally, the first Market Basket store was located across the street from Webster's, and gorgeous examples of early architecture continue to add to the community's rich history.

WEBSTER'S TRANSITIONS
Bill Webster decided to retire in 2007. To keep the store in the community, his corporation sold the Stationery department to Scott and Lori Webster and the Hallmark department to his stepdaughter and her husband. Walls were put up between the "new" separately owned stores and the new generation of Webster's, featuring Webster's Fine Stationers, was off and running!
Scott and Lori are excited to offer their new lifestyle store to the Altadena community, offering quality products and services the good-old-fashioned way-providing personal customer service with owner-operated integrity. Taking on an existing store is a daunting task, especially as the nation faces a period of economic hardship. However, Scott and Lori are committed to serving the Altadena community with their hometown community store that has endured and served Altadena families for nearly a century.
Scott and Lori embrace the opportunity to offer their customers a boutique shopping experience out of an erstwhile pass-though section of a large store. "Our goal is to offer the community more lifestyle choices in what we carry, such as recycled and fair trade products and products made here in the U.S. and in California." |

Blending Tradition With Technology
Lori's enthusiasm for her community and the store's transitions are clear, "We are Altadena 's first and only lifestyle store, and although the influence of stationery in the store's name covers many of our products, Webster's Fine Stationers offers much more than stationery. Customers can purchase products for their home and office, for their children, for school and for their appetites!"
Lori has a page on Facebook and makes regular posts to her online blog and invites all WFS customers to visit her blog and post comments! She and Scott also publish a store newsletter and invite everyone to sign up to receive news and updates regarding store promotions and events! |
